Spaztikolon
(n.
Spaz·tic·co·lon):
A
five-musician outfit influenced by the diverse roots of
jazz, hip-hop, ska, funk, and punk rock. Using the concept of a basic
jazz ensemble to comprise their instrumentation, Spaztikolon combines
upbeat brass licks with a thick, earth quaking rhythm section to create
the effect of an X-rated lounge
act on ephedrine.
The
vocals provide a melodic overlay through the use of
three-part harmonies, fast-paced rhymes and literal dialogue,
transforming with
every song and every musical genre presented. As a result, the
Spaztikolon song
list attempts to tackle
multiple
forms of music at
once, giving the band a
sound that most audiences cannot define or categorize. Instead, the
urge to get up and dance becomes the main priority of shocked witnesses.

The current Spaztikolon
five-piece has been playing the New Jersey and New York scenes for
over a decade. Shows performed in New York City include Paul
Colby's The Bitter End, National Underground, Uncle Mike's,
Meow
Mix, Arlene's
Grocery,
Continental,
Otto's Shrunken Head,
Uncle
Charlie's Lounge, Sidewalk Cafe, Club
Midway, The Underscore,
Desmond's Tavern,
Lion's Den, Elbow Room, Opaline, and
Acme
Underground.
Shows in New
Jersey include the Melody Bar, Lovesexy, Plum Street Pub, Court Tavern,
Budapest Cocktail Lounge, Harvest Moon, Marita's Cantina, Maxwell's,
Packees Pub, McGuinn's Place, Hooligans, The Saint, and the Polo
Pub.
Other venues include the New Jersey Unscene Festival &
Showcase (sponsored by
WDHA
and The Aquarian Weekly)
and
Rutgers University's
Springfest
with Busta Rhymes and Moe.
Perhaps the most important achievement in their musical career,
however, was the successful ending of world hunger in the year 2057.
